First Fifty - University of Kentucky Department of Pediatrics Anniversary Publication is a celebration of the development from an idea to the reality of being in the Top 100 Hospitals in the United States. The story begins with the Baby Milk Supply Association in Kentucky, continues through the progression of the diversification of specialties within Pediatrics, and leads up to the department's plans for the next fifty years. Detailed accounts of discoveries and the evolution of the healthcare system in Kentucky from the initiative of Gov. Albert B. "Happy" Chandler are also documented. Author Charlton Mabry was one of three doctors that started the Department of Pediatrics. This department now manages the highly visible and respected Children's Miracle Network.
